We are looking for volunteers to help facilitate weekly drop-in chess sessions for people living with Parkinson’s and their loved ones. Volunteers will support the library staff in delivering these sessions, helping with refreshments and interacting with attendees.

We are looking for volunteers to facilitate regular support groups in libraries which help people living with dementia and their careers. It would be beneficial (but not essential) if you have an existing understanding of dementia and how it can affect those living with it.

Friends Group volunteer

Friends’ group trustees are passionate about supporting their local library. They contribute ideas for fundraising and promotional events, activities and initiatives, and play an active role in making those ideas come to reality, hopefully having a lot of fun in the process! They will work with their fellow trustees and the library manager to identify how best to spend the money they raise to improve and enhance the library and the services it provides.

Thursday mornings 09:30 – 12:30

Our Stay & Play groups are a chance for parents to socialise and give their babies and young children a fun, interactive play session that engages their senses and helps their development.

What’s involved:

  • Help provide a welcoming & friendly environment
  • Listen to parents who need an ear & some support
  • Organising refreshments & tidying away
  • Undertaking training to help with the role

Tonic: Singing for Health volunteer

We are looking for a volunteer help facilitate Tonic: Singing for Health sessions.

  • Location: Leiston Library
  • Time/date: Wednesdays, 10:00 – 12:00

Tonic: Singing for Health is a friendly, accessible weekly singing workshop held at Leiston Library, designed to promote health and wellbeing through music. The sessions are seated and specifically cater to individuals living with a range of health needs, creating a supportive and inclusive environment.

What’s involved:

  • Greet and welcome participants as they arrive
  • Prepare and serve the refreshments during breaks
  • Support the delivery of the sessions as directed by the artist
  • Help maintain a safe and comfortable environment for everyone involved

Preferred qualities & skills:

  • Friendly and approachable
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Empathetic and understanding of people with health or mobility challenges
  • Follow good hygiene practices
  • Reliable and able to commit to a minimum of two sessions a month
