Kessingland Library in Marram Green has recently been transformed thanks to funding from East Suffolk Council and other local grants and fundraising.
The children’s library area has recently been completely updated with brand new purpose-built furniture, creating a bright and colourful space for families and children to enjoy. It also has a new library nook for children to explore and has been filled with new books for young readers of all ages to enjoy. This comes after other recent building work to open up the library space and install new doors to make the library more accessible.
Funding for the work has come from various sources including the East Suffolk Council Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) and other East Suffolk Grants, funds raised by the Friends of Kessingland Library and a donation from Kessingland Parish Council.
CIL is paid by developers to East Suffolk Council, and it is used to deliver new and improved facilities that support the new housing.
Councillor Mark Packard, East Suffolk Council Member for Planning and Coastal Management said:
“The library improvements are a great example of groups working together to improve the library facilities in Kessingland. This work is aimed at increasing the availability of books for children, which we all know is vital towards helping communities to prosper.”
Nadia Cenci, Suffolk County Council Cabinet Member for Communities, said:
“I’m delighted to see community and partner organisations coming together to help support these improvements for the benefit of local people. We’d like to thank everyone who has made this project possible. I’m sure people of all ages will be inspired to read and enjoy the fantastic library space.
It’s great timing to have this new space available for families and young readers as we want as many people as possible to visit and enjoy our libraries during the National Year of Reading.”
