Join us for a special talk with Wainwright prize longlisted author Robert Ashton at Saxmundham Library! Robert will be talking about his writing career so far and his latest book, Down to Earth.
He'll be chatting about soil, farming and some of the adventures he has had researching his latest book.

About Robert Ashton:
Born in Essex and raised in Suffolk, Robert Ashton has lived and worked in Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and Norfolk. Over the years he has set up a marketing agency, advised countless growing businesses, founded a social enterprise that provides apprenticeship training and successfully campaigned for the establishment of his local community foundation.
The stories he tells about the successful ventures he has worked with, and some of the tough lessons he learned along the way inform, inspire and help people see their own opportunity. He has also written a book about prejudice and another about homelessness and believes that everyone should have an equal chance in life.
In 2019 he took a year off to study, graduating from the University of East Anglia with a creative writing MA. His dissertation was the first three chapters of Where are the Fellows who Cut the Hay, a book which explores how rural life continues to evolve. His research revealed that people are rediscovering a sense of community that had all but been lost over the past 60 years when we all became more mobile and supermarkets replaced village shops.
About Down to Earth:
ভিতরে Down to Earth, Robert Ashton traces our evolving relationship with the soil from Neolithic flint miners to modern day naturists. By engaging with the people who work the land – gardeners, farmers, gravediggers and archaeologists – he unearths a wealth of practical wisdom, moving from the mysteries of ancient folklore to the urgency of today's environmental crisis.
