As Victorian poet Louise Chandler Moulton mused in her poem ‘In A Library’:
THE living ofttimes vex us—
The wise old dead are best—
When Life’s vain games perplex us
‘T is here we turn for rest.

Lorraine Mariner lives in London where she works at the National Poetry Library, Southbank Centre. She has published two collections with Picador, ‘Furniture’ (2009) and ‘There Will Be No More Nonsense’ (2014), and has twice been shortlisted in the Forward Prizes, for Best Poem and Best First Collection, and for the Seamus Heaney Centre Poetry Prize.
