Join special effects make-up artist, author and puppeteer Toto Reche at Beccles Library and learn the art of special effects make-up! This is part of The Blank Page Project which offers high-quality creative workshops for 10-16 year olds during the school holidays.

Workshops take place from 9.45AM to 3.30PM and include lunch, drinks and snacks!

This workshop will explore different creative methods, to show how to create easy special effects for fantasy/horror for movies and theatre. Toto will introduce how to draw and design for specific characters, and he will do a practical demonstration with a model. The focus will be on Dracula, Frankenstein, zombie, fantasy creatures. Participants will work in pairs; practicing on each other’s faces or hands, arms. Participants will have the opportunity to take photos to document their progress.

Please bring along some photos or a clear idea for you to base the makeup design.

How to book
Workshops must be booked in advance. You can book online via Eequ. If your booking is made within 72 hours of the workshop, we may not be able to accommodate specific dietary requirements. Please get in touch with the library location for the workshop to discuss options. Please note that whilst we welcome all young people, our staff are not specifically SEND trained.

This workshop is for 10-16 year olds only. If you feel your child requires additional support in the form of adult attendance in order to access this workshop, contact us by emailing erin.hamilton@suffolk.gov.uk.

About Toto Reche
Antonio (Toto) Reche-Martinez is a Spanish National and special effects make-up artist. Toto holds a degree from the London School of Fashion in special effects for movies and theatre which provided him with ample knowledge in make-up costume, sets, puppetry and special effects. Toto has since worked 9 years in a pantomime company, designing and making all the aspect of the production. Toto has worked in different arts disciplines all his life, and uses his knowledge to present workshops for adults and children alike. He holds diplomas in drawing, ceramics and in teaching for adult education. More recently, Toto published his first illustrated children’s book called “The Frog’s Kiss”.
