Warm Welcome

Our libraries are here to help anyone who needs support this winter. Learn more about what we’re doing to help people affected by the cost of living in Suffolk.

All our libraries operate as warm spaces during the colder winter months. As with any time of the year, everyone is welcome to visit our spaces to relax, meet up with friends, or have some quiet time to yourself.

Our warm spaces are available any time during opening hours. There’s no expectation for you to join in with events or use our facilities, although these are freely available.

Our staff are always available if you need to speak to someone and be signposted to other resources.

What we offer:

We also have a dedicated health and wellbeing service, offering mental health drop-ins, self-help books, and more.

Different services will be available at different libraries depending on space and staff capacity. We advise you to contact your local library to see what other support may be available.

Suffolk County Council has a helpful page of cost of living resources on their website.

How you can help

We’re here to support the people of Suffolk the best we can, but we need your help to keep our new initiatives going over the winter months.

You can get involved in more personal ways by helping your local library directly.

Donating essential items

As each library will be offering different support services, we invite you to speak with your local library manager and ask how you can best help them.

You can help by donating essential items, such as:

  • Tea, coffee and other food items
  • Toiletries and personal care packages
  • Warm winter clothes in good condition, such as coats, jumpers, hats, scarves and blankets
  • Knitting materials, such as yarn and needles
  • Baby items, such as clothes, toys and nappies
  • Basic school supplies for young children

Everything we receive in donations will go directly to the people in the community who need support. Please speak with your local library to find out what items they are in need of

Support us by volunteering

You can get involved by:

  • Knitting warm items such as blankets or baby clothes to donate to your local library
  • Sorting donations
  • Serving warm drinks and food
  • Delivering books to customers who are unable to visit their library due to health or mobility issues
  • Facilitating events and activities in our libraries

If you have a particular skill you’d like to volunteer, contact libraryvolunteers@suffolk.gov.uk to discuss something that fits what you want to do.
