Local writer Jennie Fontana taught in many settings from primary schools to prisons. She was a tutor in Creative Writing and Poetry for Open College of the Arts and the University of Sussex’s Women’s Studies Access course. Her poems have been widely published and she has given readings and held residencies at festivals and poetry events. Jennie’s long poem The Great Alignment was published earlier this year. She has two previous collections: Lost Stations and Ancient Remedy published by Stride. Her work on her Italian heritage won a major bursary from South East Arts.
The late poet and novelist Helen Dunmore, said: “Jennie Fontana’s poems are as direct as a shrug or a caress…she speaks straight to her reader. A rare quality of intimacy fills these poems.”
This event has been kindly organised by the Friends of Halesworth Library.
