People living with Parkinson’s, alongside those who support them, are invited to join a new monthly support group launching at Stowmarket Library this August.

In partnership with Parkinson’s UK, Suffolk Community Libraries is launching a welcoming new book group for people affected by Parkinson’s, including those living with the condition, as well as carers, family members, and loved ones.

The group will take place at Stowmarket Library on the last Wednesday of each month from 1pm to 2pm. The first session is on Wednesday 26 August.

Attendees can expect:

  • Relaxed discussions about a shared book
  • A supportive and understanding environment
  • Refreshments and a warm welcome
  • Opportunities to suggest future reads.

There’s no need to book or to be referred – everyone is welcome to drop in, and there’s no expectation to take part in discussions unless you feel comfortable to do so.

Lisa Brennan, Cultural Health Officer for Suffolk Community Libraries, said:

“We’re delighted to be launching this new group at Stowmarket Library. We know that living with Parkinson’s, or supporting someone who does, can sometimes feel isolating. This group offers an opportunity to connect with others, share experiences, discover new books and enjoy meaningful conversations in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

“Whether you’d like to chat, listen, or simply enjoy being among people who understand, you’ll be assured of a warm welcome.”

We also have a list of recommended books on Parkinson’s which will be on display at Stowmarket Library. These books are available to reserve to collect from any library in Suffolk for free. You can browse the full collection on our website.

Suffolk Community Libraries is seeking volunteers to help facilitate the book group at Stowmarket Library. This role involves greeting and welcoming participants, encouraging discussions, and helping to maintain a safe, respectful and open environment for all attendees.

Anyone interested in this volunteer role can apply online.
