About this event
Join local artist Mia Gonzales-Janes at Gainsborough Community Library and learn how to design and create your very own book! This is part of O Projeto Página em Branco which offers high-quality creative workshops for 10-16 year olds during the school holidays.
Workshops take place from 9.45AM to 3.30PM and include lunch, drinks and snacks! Book this workshop on Eequ.
We will start the day by browsing the shelves in the library and discovering interesting book designs, choosing our favourites as inspiration for our own books. We will then learn a variety of bookbinding methods using high-quality materials (all provided). Afterwards, we'll do mini experiments and try inventing our own methods, before bringing our design ideas to life!
This workshop will equip young people with the knowledge and skills so that they can continue making their own unique books at home.
How to book
Workshops must be booked in advance. You can book online via Eequ. If your booking is made within 72 hours of the workshop, we may not be able to accommodate specific dietary requirements. Please get in touch with the library location for the workshop to discuss options.
Please note that whilst we welcome all young people, our staff are not specifically SEND trained.
This workshop is for 10-16 year olds only. If you feel your child requires additional support in the form of adult attendance in order to access this workshop, contact us by emailing blankpage@suffolk.gov.uk.

About Mia Gonzales-Janes
Born and raised in Ipswich, Mia is a regular at Suffolk Community Libraries and proudly uses her childhood library card to this day. She has studied Theoretical Physics at the University of Birmingham, and she is currently producing work exploring the intersection of art and science.
Having spent time in programmes run by the Ikon Gallery, the Sainsbury Centre and the Fitzwilliam museum, she has learnt a wide range of artistic mediums and has been interested in ways to make books, what we can use them for, and uses them as a tool in her practice.
