Got overdue charges and fines?<\/h2>\n

Overdue charges and fines for lost books are necessary to try to ensure people bring back books for others. However, we know there can be many reasons for this.<\/p>\n

We know we won\u2019t get all the money back associated with these charges and it\u2019s more important to us to see people visiting and using our libraries.<\/p>\n

We’re offering an \u2018amnesty\u2019 throughout January and February 2026<\/strong> with the aim of waiving some fines or coming to an agreement on a much lower payment for those who owe a lot of money.<\/p>\n

Why we’re offering an amnesty<\/h3>\n

The main aims of doing this are as follows:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Increasing active membership\u202fof the service<\/li>\n
  • Stimulating book and resource loaning<\/li>\n
  • Contributing to\u202fliteracy development and reading for pleasure<\/li>\n
  • Reducing barrier to libraries<\/li>\n
  • Increasing positive feelings towards the service<\/li>\n
  • Encouraging the return\u202fof books which may be sitting in people\u2019s homes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    If this affects you and you want to start using your library card again \u2013 come to the library in January and February and talk to us about this.<\/p>\n

    We can hopefully then come to an arrangement to clear your account and \u2018unfreeze\u2019 your account so you can enjoy our books and services again!<\/p>\n

    What’s involved<\/h3>\n

    The amnesty will differ depending on each person\u2019s situation but can be summarised as follows:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • Overdue charges\u202fover \u00a35\u202fand\u202fup to\u202f\u00a314<\/strong> (the limit at which an account is frozen) will be\u202freduced to a flat rate of \u00a35<\/li>\n
    • Anyone with overdue fees under \u00a35<\/strong> but who may have let their membership lapse i.e. not active, will be offered a \u2018wipe the slate clean\u2019 full reset for no charge.<\/li>\n
    • We will accept the return of long overdue books<\/strong>\u202fin good condition in exchange for removing associated charges from someone\u2019s account<\/li>\n
    • If books are completely lost<\/strong>, we encourage customers to speak to their local library manager where a case-by-case judgement will be made<\/li>\n
    • Anyone wishing to get a replacement card<\/strong>\u00a0during January and February will have the \u00a31.60 library card replacement charge waived.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      These arrangements will only apply during January and February 2026<\/strong> so please contact us soon to take advantage of this offer!<\/p>\n
